Rock Band Fun!

So just this weekend i decided to pick up Rock Band for my Xbox360. For those not familar with it, it's similar to Guitar Hero except that it comes with a guitar controller, a microphone, and a drum controller.

Since I've played Guitar Hero many times, using Rock Band to play guitar games is very similar to what I'm already used to. Using the microphone is very similar to playing a karaoke game. The part to get used to with the microphone is that it's not listening for the words, but for the tone. Hum or sing the right note is more important that singing the right words.

The drums I thought would be pretty easy, but I have been sadly mistaken so far. The drums include 4 drums and one foot pedal (like a base drum). Besides trying to hit the right drum at the right time, I have to use my foot on the pedal as well, not always on the beat. Plus, it's easier to miss a drum with the drum sticks than it is to miss a key on the guitar. Much more room for error.

Of course, none of these are complaints. The game is awesome. There are like over 50 songs available in the game, and more are available through downloads. It's a sweet game. You can use any of the other guitars with the game, but I like using the new one that came with it. It's a good one.

General Stuff

Well, After reading my two brother's blogs this morning, I realized that it's been a long time since I have updated mine. Quite a few things have been going on since my last post.

1. All my kids are finally in school! Just last week, David started Pre-K. He gets to catch the bus at the end of our driveway and go to school for around 3 hours in the afternoon. He's so excited! He's got the same teacher that Isabel had when she went to Pre-K. Ples, now Yvonne can get a little kid-free break every school day.

2. Guitar Hero 3 came out this week. While I didn't pick it up the first day it was relased, I do plan on getting it before the end of the week. So after dinner on thanksgiving we should have guitar battles?

just buy a CD and rip it

Check out this article on ITWire.

Bill Gates, Head Honcho of Microsoft tells people to forget DRM issues and just buy CDs and rip them. Pretty odd since Microsoft is just coming out with their new Zune media player, with a online music store just for them. Personally, I find iTunes really easy to use, especially since I can burn any music I buy through them onto CD anyway.

School & Football

Well, it's that time of the year again where school is back in session. This year Michael is in Second Grade and the twins started Kindergarden. Time to get back to an predictable schedule of what time to wake up, what time to go to bed, catch bus, do homework, etc. David thinks he's ready for school as well. When the twins go out to catch their bus, David puts on his backpack and walks out with them. He's still got a few years to go.

Also, football season started over the weekend. It's alw3ays nice to see the Bears win the first game of the season. That doesn't happen often enough. It's even better when they beat the Packers... at home... by shutting them out! Favre's first shutout of his career. He should really think about retiring.
